The theme is interior design, you are therefore invited inside the studios and workshops where what we decorate ourselves with takes shape.

You will be introduced to glassblower Alexander Kirkeby, who a few years after completing his education has established himself on the international design scene, to the also newly trained ceramist Heidi Lillevang, who is experimenting with stucco and to plasterer Peter Funder, who has 35 years of experience in the industry.

You are invited to Öland to a very special school. The school was established by Carl Malmsten and his wife Siv Malmsten in 1957. Ceramics, textiles, wood and horticulture are taught at the school now, as then, and to stay with Malmsten, I have had inspiring conversations with Professor Andreas Nobel. He is a cabinetmaker and designer and teaches at Sweden's finest cabinetmaking course at Malmstens in Stockholm (a campus under Linköping University).

Andreas Nobel argues: "You underestimate each subject area when you approach all fields in the same way rather than recognizing that it takes many years of training to master your subject. For example, it takes a lifetime of work to achieve a high level in philosophy. In the same way, it takes years of work to achieve a high level in craftsmanship, design or art”. He doubts whether in the same life one can achieve such a high enough level in both fields that the philosopher can add something to art and design and vice versa.
